The Heart of You ~ David Rowan I don’t know – what light made this life for I don’t know – what I’ll learn from this arduous road ... I don’t know – how to rest this thirst to know more I just know – my heart hears a distant calling ‘you really know – divine love is behind you you really know – your true self is your soul ‘you really know – the love you’re looking for … is in the Heart of you ….' From sorrow – we learn to walk with kindness From shadows – we lean into the light ... From deeds we sew – shaping tomorrow As you grow – your history passes calling ‘you really know – a lifetime is but a fleeting moment you really know – home awaits your Soul you really know – the love you’re looking for … is in the Heart of you …' And pain you know – makes bitter of this world of beauty And pain you know – burns a flame across this land And pain you know – grows into forgiveness Time to know – here … your higher voice is calling ‘you really know – divine love is behind you you really know – home too awaits your Soul you really know – the love you’re looking for … is in the Heart of you …' The love you’re looking for The wealth you’re hungry for The life you’re looking for The goal you hope to score The height you’re reaching for Praise you need so much more Strength to find the summer’s door Wisdom’s path your feet to walk The eye of kindness at your door The confidence to shine and soar All the love you’re looking for … is in the Heart of you … © David Rowan 18th December 2007

Starchild 05:39
Whatever you believe about how the universe came into being, one thing is for certain: there was a mighty noise … Starchild Like me You are a being of light A stardust seed Like me You are a light child Beautiful and free Like me You are still learning Express the real me Like me Your power’s growing Flow with your energy Like me Like me You're healing inside Your inner mind Like me You've inner vision Wisdom beyond time Like me Your love is haunting Joy is your alchemy Like me Your evolution bursts with love and energy Like me The wind will guide you The Earth will set you free The fire of love will burn As waters cleanse your heart within Pain is a season Like sunshine and like rain Love is the reason To rejoice in life again Like me © David Rowan - lyrics 1999, music 2010

the Haunting 04:35
The Haunting How can I walk away ? How can I just say goodbye ? Your laughter still rings from pictures in cold empty rooms What can I say when you cry ? You tell me you love me Plead me to stay Your face haunts my mind A price for the guilty to pay Love is blind Yet changes its colours Seasoned in time ... If love comes to fall Still hearts touch above Deep inside me Forever, the haunting of love What does 'destiny' mean ? It brings us so close Tears us apart It's always the wrong time to tell you 'I must break your heart' I live for your love But no day is ever the same Love moves the strong So how can the weak be to blame ? Love is blind Yet changes its colours Seasoned in time ... If love comes to fall Still hearts touch above Deep inside me Forever, the haunting of love © David Rowan 1986

In 1984, I wasn’t in a band ... our old keyboard player was though, and he’d just bought the new Yamaha DX7 and wanted to see what it could do – but he couldn’t play that well. His new band’s sax player could though, and he thought it would be interesting to see how my intuition would interact with his classical training; we were all called Dave. I went round Dave Frances’ house and found he wasn’t just a sax player; he had a baby upright grand in his bedroom and played cello and trumpet as well – I felt intimidated because I can’t read a note. So, I suggested an experiment; we sat back to back and played a chord each in turn, and made a private note of what we were playing, so the other person could only go by the sound, and not go to where they thought they ‘should’ go ... to his surprise, we created a chord sequence which should not work and within 3 hours of trying it at different speeds we had recorded and written an instrumental we both like. It was recorded on a twin tape deck, and built up a lot of hiss, so please excuse the quality ... I had been to Stonehenge for the first time just two months before and we came up with felt how I felt in the very first moment I saw it. I had written a poem with a title I thought he may like, and we named the piece of music after that. From the Sea of Time A river flows, The path of destiny Through the valleys of despair Past the glades of new spring Where two dreamers dance the ripples As the moonlight pulls the tide Washing away the lovers Out to the sea of time © David Rowan, 1984

the Fugitive 04:51
When I was 18 I auditioned for an experimental band called, 'Thrill Device', in Iver: 1980. You'll find a couple of theirs on this album, anyway, in 1981, without my knowing, the band sacked the keyboard player, Dave Balchin, and I soon followed ... :( We started our own thing in the summer of 1981 and I knew a bass player form a school punk band, Andy Button and he bought Greg, the amazing drummer from Bray along too. It was months before we found the most suitable of unsuitable singers, so for a time, we honed a sound from playing instrumentals. The Fugitive stood out. It began as a jam of fragmented bits of songs and experimental ideas with a different bass player and drummer and then, found its feet when Still Motion fell into place. This recording was done with just a simple cassette tape player balanced on a window sill in a corner of the room. No sound checks were taken - it is just a recording of a moment ... A moment I will always view very fondly

When planet Earth is blue ... World turns into the night Weary bones find softened down Silent owl takes to flight Smaller feet run underground Dreamers reach for something new Your mind drifts away into the blue The stars light the way for you When planet earth is blue ... Clouds bring a shadowed ground But in human hearts, darkness is found In fear we lose our inner sight Love takes cover underground Modern city orange lights Bring darkness to the gloom But the stars are a light for you When planet earth is blue ... Morning stars bring thoughts to mind But dreams are woven in the night Leave fear behind at street-light’s door And wonder with the stars tonight Heroes cast into the sky Wisdom’s path – alight with stars for you The stars reach down to you When planet earth is blue ... © David Rowan, December 2009.

Stray Birds 04:29
Stray Birds Life is the crossing of the sea, where we meet in the same narrow ship. In death we reach the shore, and go to our different worlds What you are you do not see - you see your shadow We read the world wrong - and say that it deceives us Men are cruel – but man is kind We read the world wrong - and say that it deceives us missing the sun you also miss the stars Chorus: My life doesn't follow the curve, thoughts whirl around me like stray birds ... my path finds a parallel world, like stray birds ... My life doesn't follow the curve, thoughts whirl around me like stray birds ... my path finds a parallel world, Sirens call me, like stray birds My heart is home - homeesick today, for the one sweet hour Across the sea of time We live in this world - when we love it I cannot choose the best - the best chooses me We read the world wrong - and say that it deceives us Men are cruel – but man is kind We read the world wrong - and say that it deceives us missing the sun you also miss the stars Chorus: My life doesn't follow the curve, thoughts whirl around me like stray birds ... my path finds a parallel world, like stray birds ... My life doesn't follow the curve, thoughts whirl around me like stray birds ... my path finds a parallel world, Sirens call me, like stray birds Song concept and choruses © David Rowan, December 2012 Verses and title inspiration © R Tagore, ‘Stray Birds’, Published; Forgotten Books. the Sweetest Spot There’s a beautiful place, in this beautiful world Where my fears and troubles worry me not I can feel my soul sing, my heart unfolds At the sweetest spot ... A dappled path through a tunnel of trees Sweet honey due, upon the breeze The beauty of all mother nature sees At the sweetest spot Wise old badger Cunning fox Sunlit eye forget me not haunting moon and wild cry my heart is held by soft green moss an inner light shines at the sweetest spot sacred grove and ancient stone pay no heed to the paths we roam my heart hears the calling, my feet return home at the sweetest spot © David Rowan, May 2013
